A Triple Action Safe and Natural Product

Spider Mite Damage on an Alberta Spruce
  1. Dormant Oil Spray for overwintering insects
  2. An All-Seasons Oil Spray from numerous insect pests (see list below)
  3. Disease Control for four common plant & turf diseases

Nature's Lawn & Garden's WIPEOUT Natural Horticultural Oil is a pesticide-free spray made from three natural (non-petroleum) oils. It is exempt from EPA Registration and can be sprayed on edible plants at any time up to harvest.

WIPEOUT controls smaller insects and scales by coating and suffocating them with natural oils (sesame seed, castor and fish oil). It works on all stages — eggs, larvae, nymphs and adults- of the target pest. It also has an insect preventing effect since it coats plants with a fine oil film that repels egg-laying insects.

WIPEOUT should be applied with a fine spray, like you would get with a pump sprayer or a hand mister. Using just 1-2 oz per gallon, a little WIPEOUT goes a long way.

WIPEOUT has been shown to be effective on insects such as (but not limited to):

    Euonymous Scale
  • Aphids
  • Mealy Bugs
  • Soft and Armored Scales (including Euonymous Scale)
  • Spider Mites (found on most Alberta Spruces)
  • Citrus Mites (use at 1.2% concentration)
  • White Flies
  • Thrips
  • Gnats
  • Leaf Rollers
  • Chinch Bugs
  • Leaf Miners
  • Sago Pine Scale

Disease Prevention WIPEOUT has shown preventative/curative affects on the following (but not limited to) diseases:

  • Black Spot on roses
  • Powdery Mildew
  • Helminthesporium
  • Greasy Spot (citrus/fruit trees)

Powdery Mildew

Black Spot on Roses
Cautionary Note. This product is safe to use on most plants, even in hot weather, however the Euphorbia (Crown of Thorns) family has shown some sensitivity. As a general suggestion, plants under drought stress are more susceptible to disease and insect injury and should not be wilting when sprays are applied.

Application Instructions

Use any sprayer that gives out a fine spray pattern. Pump or pressure sprayers, hand misters and commercial sprayers all work well. Hose-end sprayers are generally not recommended unless you are soaking thicker evergreens.

For garden plants, shrubs and trees: Apply at 1-2 oz WIPEOUT per gallon of water, or 1-2 gallons per 100 gallons of water (1-2% percent solution). For hand misters use 1 teaspoon per cup of water.

Apply an even coating on all leaves and branches of plants. Spray top and bottom of leaves as well as trunk or stem. Start applications before infestations as a preventative measure. Treat susceptible plants every 3-4 weeks throughout the growing season.

For Sago Palm Scale: Make 3 applications - a week to 10 days apart. Treat the whole tree, including the trunk. Preventative treatments can be applied up to twice a month.

For Chinch Bugs in lawns: Treat affected area heavily at 3-4 gallons of solution per 1000 sf. Water lightly to get the oil off the blades and onto the soil. Repeat in 7 days if necessary.

For Use as a Dormant Oil

Pine Scale
Dormant Oil spraying is done when woody plants are not actively growing, and when (except for evergreens) the leaves are off the plants. For example, in the North, Dormant Oil Spraying is typically done at the end of winter or in very early spring, before trees and plants leaf out. Many insects and disease organisms overwinter on the stems, trunks and branches of plants and trees. Covering the dormant branches and trunks of plants with our WIPEOUT suffocates overwintering insect eggs and fungal spores.

Some of the insects controlled by dormant oil are pine needle scale, oyster shell scale, euonymus scale, aphids, caterpillar (eggs), spider mites and small pine sawfly larvae.

Apply when plants are dry and rain is not expected. Spray when temperatures will not fall below freezing for at least 24 hours. Apply at the end of winter, in late March or early April, before buds begin to swell or open. Do not spray when plants are in bloom. (You can spray fruit trees again after bloom.) Coat all branches and trunks, making sure you get the oil into any cracks in the bark where insects may hide. Before you spray make sure to clean up the fallen leaves around your plants and remove any left over fruit that may be still hanging on your trees.
